Saloma (Puan Sri Datin Amar Salmah binti Ismail) was one half of a golden couple with Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Malaysia’s most recognized actor, director and musician.
Saloma had a great passion in singing. She started singing at the age of seven and became a professional singer in her teens. It was not a surprise to see her singing on weddings, festive and family events at the barely age of 13.
As for her stage name, Saloma, some believe that it was given by Run Run Shaw of Shaw Bros when Salome (starred by Rita Hayworth) hit the box office. Meanwhile, some said that it was coined by her husband, Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
