Bolts of lightning struck down, setting the stage for an electrifying atmosphere on ground for #ChurpOut2012. The event saw more than 3,000 pairs of feet tapping to the rhythm of this one-of-a-kind social media festival held at Publika Boulevard and Square showcasing the best of local acts, top social media influencers, celebrities, fashion, and YouTube stars whilst raising funds for charity.

KUALA LUMPUR - Behind #ChurpOut2012 was the social media community ChurpChurp, which aims to bring together social media influencers in Malaysia and reward them for sharing the latest happenings, trends and brands with their friends. The community has organized a series of “#ChurpOuts” in the past, which were more intimate gatherings where members of the community could meet and mingle.

A percentage of each sale was committed to the various Breast Cancer Awareness Societies of the influencers’ choice in conjunction with the Pink Ribbon month.
“The response towards this was very encouraging! The idea behind this initiative was to educate and remind women about taking the necessary measures for breast cancer prevention during the Pink Ribbon month especially through influential personalities and social media users, and at the same time garner support and raise funds for charity.”

The official partners for #ChurpOut2012 included Xpax, BCard and Durex. Guests were treated to exclusive vouchers worth RM 1,000 with every sign up for a BCard, while Durex had the crowd enthralled by the longest ‘rap’ rhymes created as an innovative way to create awareness and educate the public about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

The games were huge crowd-pleasers; however the highlight was undoubtedly the Xpax Whatchuwant Dunk & Draw, where attendees could get dunked for a chance to win prizes.
Being a gathering of social media addicts, there was, of course, a twist to it – those clamouring to get dunked had to tweet at @xpaxsays with mentions of #Whatchuwant and #ChurpOut2012 to qualify for a dunk. The mechanics of the game eventually made the Twitter hashtags #ChurpOut2012 and
#Whatchuwant top trending topics in Malaysia a day before the event and on October 13th 2012.
Attendees quickly dried off as the sun showed up fashionably late. But some were not so lucky, such as celebrities DJ Fuzz, Jeremy Teo, Natalie Kniese, Beautifulnara, Joseph Germani and more were cheered on as they walked the plank.
Public accuracy stood between them and a dip in the freezing water, and as expected it wasn’t long before both took a swim in the cold depths of the Xpax Watchuwant Dunk & Draw.

Onstage, the crowd was entertained by performing arts community Kaki Seni, top cheerleading group Cheer Aces, local dance Crew and more. Besides that, local bands such as the Malaysian Ukulele Group, Skyward and Silence Speaks rocked the crowd’s socks off as they hit the crowd up with some fresh new tunes. Internationally renowned Malaysian acts ManHanD and dayDream wowed the crowd with their energetic performances, and local YouTube stars including Dan Khoo Productions, Reuben Kang of JinnyboyTV, Joseph Germani, The Ming Thing and others also made an appearance as they got up to their usual goofy stunts, leaving the crowd roaring for more.
As nightfall encroached on the day, the bigger stars came out to play. Dazzling the crowd with her charm, Daphne Iking dropped some old school hip hop tracks on the decks while Fashion Valet took center stage with a sneak peak of its latest collection showcased by models from the Amber Chia Academy.
Finally, DJ Fuzz pumped up the crowd with his signature beats and tracks culminating in a fantastic finale to the night.
