KIM LOW - A MODEL BEYOND MEASURE

Standing at 175cm tall, Low Lai Kim, better known as Kim Low, is a freelance model with many experiences and achievements under her belt. This 25-year-old beauty was the winner of Miss Babelicious Model Search at Gent 2010, Mid Valley and the Wilayah representative for Miss Malaysia International Top Model National Finalist 2010.

Fashion shows, print ads, video shoots, beauty pageants, you name it, she's there! Her journey does not end just there, she is currently doing a professional certified modelling extreme course in Amber Chia Academy.

WoM had the opportunity to interview her and here's how it went:

WoM: At what age did you start venturing into the modelling world? Was it tough for you?

Kim Low: I actually only started modelling about one and a half years ago. And I do regret that I started too late as well. That made my modelling journey even tougher as people always say that it's better to start as young as possible. I had actually done my degree in Australia and also had a few years of working experience  in the society already. It's really a tough journey for me as my age restricts me from certain competitions and jobs. Now, I'm still in the process of learning and trying to reach higher in the modelling field. Anyhow, no matter how tough it is, I'm not going to give up and I'll continue doing my best!

WoM: Who inspired to do modelling?

Kim Low: Actually I would say there's no specific individual who inspired me. It's more about my passion and interest towards modelling. Some people might dream to be a successful business person, singer, actor and such, but for me, being a model has always been my dream. I used to admire the models doing the runway shows, posing in front of the cameras below the stage until recently, I've decided to make my dream come true. I don't want to regret when it's too late, so I started building my modelling network as soon as I can in order to get more chances in getting jobs and exposures.

WoM: Have you ever reached to a point where you just want to give up modelling?

Kim Low: I think I would say yes in this, it's normal that we might lose our confidence during hard times such as being rejected from an agency, being criticized by other models, or even when we fail to get what we want after putting so much effort into it. But even this happens, I would gain back my confidence very fast. Nothing can bring me down with my strong passion and belief in modelling!
WoM: Have you ever felt insecure about yourself? (In terms of height, weight & physical appearance)

Kim Low: I consider myself as average. Not perfect and not the worst. I appreciate what God had given me. At least I have the height, presentable face and a healthy body. I may not be as pretty as those superstars, but I know how to carry myself and present the best side of me. I do believe that both internal and external beauty are very important to succeed in modelling. It's very important for a model to be positive. Everyone has their own unique beauty, it depends on how you carry them.

WoM: If modelling was not meant for you, what other path would you got to instead?

Kim Low: I would say I'll be working as a nutritionist, just like what I have studied for my degree. It's really interesting to be able to help people and also myself to stay slim, healthy and beautiful. I would also like to involve myself in sales, I think doing sales is challenging yet interesting for me. I'm a sociable person and I enjoy communicating with different kinds of people and personality, so that's a good exposure and networking in doing sales!

WoM: Lastly, is there any message/advice that you would like to share with all the women out there in Malaysia?

Kim Low: I would use the word suggest rather than advice as I do believe that there are a lot more experienced people out there. Just be yourself, work hard to make your dream come true, nothing is impossible! If we look at the word "impossible" properly, it's actually "I'm possible"! Go for your dream and always remember to carry a positive attitude with you. Don't regret when it's too late, be confident and all the rest will follow. No shortcuts!
