We were fortunate to have collaborated with ColorZ n CurlZ for our previous fashion photo shoot session last April. Its spacious and modern interior have made ColorZ n CurlZ become the ideal place for those who are looking for a cozy yet modern place to get their hair done.
Kim Ling Chew, also known as Kim, is the owner and hair designer of ColorZ n CurlZ. Her friendly personality and high-spirited nature makes everything become more inviting. WoM had the opportunity to interview her and here's how it went like:
WoM: Tell us a little bit about ColorZ n CurlZ. When and how did you start the business?
Kim: Colorz N Curlz is currently just a small salon, I started this about 6 months ago, I have been working as a hairdresser for 10 years now and I think, its time to set up my own place, where I can understand and give more to my regular customers, when you have your own place, you won't get all tide up with why and why, such as, the boss will ask you why do you want to color this color on your customer, as you know different hairstylists have different tastes and different ways to understand a customer, besides, fashion line has no obligation on what you do, as long as the outcome is good and the customer is happy with it, normally I would talk to the customer about just normal stuff, that's enough for me to see and understand his or her personality before I suggest them this and that. Different people accept things differently, at the end of the day, we will of course discuss about it and then proceed. Where as for chemical work, I normally try to do what's best, not to damage the hair more or maybe minimize the damages that may cause. I would normally deliver something my customer would be comfortable with carrying daily, something easy to manage.
Kim: I choose this name because it consist of colors and curls where both are normally used in hair salon, just to change the alphabet s to z, to make it a bit different but the sound tone that comes out would be something similar.
WoM: Have you ever encountered with customers who are very picky/demanding?
Kim: Well...every hairstylist will come across customers who are picky and demanding, of course it's normal for a customer to be this way because what we do, is what they will carry daily, on the other hand, it's good too to have customer this way, that can make us see things differently because hairstyling is where you keep on learning new things until you get old. In fashion line, there won't be a full stop. I actually love picky customers, because when they are really satisfied with you, they will stick to you, no matter how busy you are, they will still wait for you.WoM: Do you have any plans to open up other branches in the future?
Kim: Well... not for now, just want to personally focus on all the customers who come to my present salon, as you know now, hair salon businesses are very competitive, especially in Malaysia.
WoM: Lastly, is there any personal message or advice that you would like to share with all the young women out there in Malaysia?
Kim: Get some time to pamper yourself and make yourself look beautiful then only your confidence will automatically come out and shine.
