Let’s be honest, we’ve all at one point in our life resorted to using technology to find love. I’ll admit that I’m a repeat offender if using Tinder was a crime! It took me only one swipe to the right to test the waters and BOOM, this matchmaking mobile app became an addiction to compensate my non-existing social life. Using it on and off, Tinder in all its superficiality proved to be a social experiment.
Men are from Mars, and women from Venus, right?
WRONG.
There’s no point in deluding yourself that men are so incomprehensible or vice versa. For all you know, your ‘HE’ might just be around the corner. Tinder only produces matches within “close” proximity, so you may find yourself smirking at familiar faces forgetting for a moment that they too might be doing the same.
So how does Tinder help us men and women know each other a little better? Well, there are only two types of people on this dual-choice app:
So how does Tinder help us men and women know each other a little better? Well, there are only two types of people on this dual-choice app:
1. People looking for “love”

I say “love” because there are two parts to this most used word – physical, and emotion. Of course we all know what physical “love” means. But surprisingly enough, people actually use Tinder (of all online dating platforms available!) to look for... "THE ONE".
Although there’s plenty of platform for networking, Tinder is also used to promote businesses and garner more Instagram followers (more of the latter really). Be wary of the clichéd “just looking around/to make friends” or “not interested” bio.
Talking about one’s bio on Tinder, the data collected from your Facebook account will be featured as contents of your profile on the app. You have the choice of editing what you share. Hence, your bio can be saying something really tongue-in-cheek or the blatant truth. Be careful what you say in your profile because this will indirectly be an invitation for creeps (yikes!) or potential friendship.
Tinder's all about that face, 'bout that face!
A single photo is enough to trigger a series of matches granted it’s a mutual swipe. Again, seeing as data is collected from your Facebook account, you’re bound to have your most recent profile picture set for scrutiny by the masses. It’s really a matter of “hot or not” when it comes to this, but again, you get to choose the image that best represents you.
Built on the concept of virtual speed dating, Tinder takes away the awkward stranger-friend phase. Communication done post-matched acts as a safety net should you find yourself dealing with a total creep or someone you actually do know in reality. Of course, taking it to the next level would involve divulging personal information. So put yourself out there or remain mysteriously vague (go with the latter!), “Meet” people from all walks of life and some even from across the seas.

Tinder proves to be popular for both the socially inept and the vain. While we may snigger at others for using it (despite having used it ourselves), the app continues to garner usage and more potential matches for us.
Good English is a WIN in my book, and not using some cryptic text lingo is a BONUS. But then again - different people, different strokes.
Plus, how tolerant are you?
