Woman To Watch: Dato' Rohana Rozhan

by Karen Arulsamy

The celebration of the achievements of Malaysian women inspires many of us to march on and overcome restraints that we face in a developing Malaysia. One such notable person who has shown us that the Malaysian world of business is not just a man’s domain is Dato Rohana Rozhan.

She is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Astro Malaysia Holdings, a successful media entertainment company in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Dato Rohana joined the Astro group in 1995 and served on the senior management team before being appointed as CEO on April 1, 2011.

She is wary of the changes in consumer behaviour and emphasizes the need to create a competent workforce.

Her determination and management dexterity prompted Women in Leadership (WIL) Asia Awards to award her “Asia Leading Woman in Media 2011”.

Dato Rohana’s strong credentials have helped her in the vastly changing entertainment industry. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hon.) in Accounting and Economics from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. In 2006, she completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. It is important to keep learning and acquiring training to excel in this competitive environment!

Dato Rohana’s early career experience has also moulded her decision-making skills and capabilities. Before transitioning into the entertainment industry, she worked in a very different industry dealing with consumer goods. Her nine-year stint at Unilever Group in Malaysia and in the United Kingdom provided her with the necessary experience in the administrative and financial management of large corporations.

Now here is a woman who is unafraid to take calculated risks and assert herself in the highly demanding business field!

Dato Rohana’s pleasant smile is charming and we cannot help but smile at her great achievements.
