What is trail mix?
It is a mixture of dried fruit, grains, nuts and sometimes chocolate, eaten as a snack. It is good to take with you when you go for hiking or camping as you do not want to add on the weight of your backpack.
So… what’s so special about it?
It is tasty, lightweight, easy to store and nutritious, providing a quick boost from the carbohydrates in the dried fruit and/or granola and sustained energy from the mono- and polyunsaturated fats (healthy fats) in nuts.
Common ingredients may include:
· Nuts e.g. peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans
· Seeds e.g. pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, cashews
or sunflower seeds
· Legumes e.g. peanuts or baked soybeans
· Dried fruits e.g. cranberries, raisins, apricots, apples or candied orange peel
· Chocolate e.g. chips, chunks or M&M's
· Breakfast cereals e.g. Granola
· Pretzels
· Carob or banana chips
· Shredded coconut
· Ginger (crystallized)
· Marshmallow

Recipe:
· 1 cup or half cup of the ingredients that mentioned above (you don’t have to put all but pick for your favorites)
· 1 cup or half cup of chocolate (for… ahem… the antioxidants)
· You can add any other nuts, dried fruit or chocolate substitute that you like.
· Popular additions include chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, coconut and sunflower seeds (Do not
add in sugars or salts to avoid excess calories, but taste the natural sweetness of the dried fruits).
· Mix together in a big bowl.
· Store in an airtight container or eat immediately.
