REFLECTION 2012: Fashion For A Cause

Reflection @ Blackbox Solaris, Dutamas
15th January 2012

"Let's give back to charity in style!"

Keeping it hip and chic, the ladies of Ammara Hijabi and The Insiders have come up with a whole new reflection of style. Not only dedicating their hearts to the fashion world, these amazing ladies have also played their part in giving back to those in need as proceeds from the event were donated to the orphanage, Rumah Amal Belaian Kasih.

With famous guests like Hana Tajima of Maysaa and Vivy Yusof of FashionValet.net, there was no doubt that these two ladies have walked in the room with amazing style and aura, keeping the media and guests in awe!

"I'm constantly inspired by the kind of styles and things that I see... and just the generals of enthusiasm that the women here have."
- Hana Tajima

This fashion-slash-charity event was proven to be a huge crowd-pleaser as the quirky Maria Elena from peliks.blogspot.com took the stage as the emcee while singing sensations Heliza Helmi and The Fabulous Cats kept the crowd in groove with their notable performances.

WoM had the privilege to interview two of the organizers, Siti Sarah (Ammara Hijabi) and Tengku Rinanda (The Insiders), Maria Elena and Hana Tajima after the show and here's how it went like:

(L to R: Siti Safrina, Amalina, Hana Tajima, Sarah, Tengku)
Sarah and Tengku:

WoM: What do you think of the event overall?

Sarah: Actually, we didn't expect it to be this big for our first time, but Alhamdulillah it turned out really well.

WoM: Why the name "Reflection"?

Sarah: Reflection is reflecting yourself through fashion. You're showing everyone else how you perceive yourself through fashion.

WoM: Did you stumble upon any obstacles when you were planning this event?

Sarah and Tengku: Of course!
Sarah: We had a lot of hiccups...but Alhamdulillah, it turned out to be manageable. Thanks to all the crew too who actually made it all worked out well.

WoM: Dealing with all the obstacles throughout the planning, what made you decide to not give up on this?

Sarah: The main goal is that we are doing this for charity, we are helping the under privileged kids. And also because we want to bring the online blogshop designers to the public. So that's what kept us going.

WoM: Any future plans? "Reflection 2"?

Tengku: InsyaAllah...but not this year lah! (Laughs) Maybe next year.
Sarah: It can be an annual event, but possibly just once a year.

WoM: Lastly, what's your advise to those who inspire to organize events such as this?

Tengku: You have to never give up. Even if you face any problems or whatsoever, you just have to keep going, maintain calm and try to think of alternative ways.

(Maria Elena)

Maria Elena:

WoM: What do you think of the show?

Maria Elena: As the emcee, I think the show was sufficient in its on way...The performers performed their best and the guests are simply beautiful, MasyaAllah!

WoM: How did it feel like being the emcee for this event?

Maria Elena: It was nerve-wracking! I've never emceed this kind of event before, I've emceed weddings which were fully scripted, I didn't have to put my own style whatsoever. So yeah, it was nerve-wracking, I was literally shaking (laughs), but thank God my lines were kind of flowy so you couldn't really see that!

(L to R: Shafiqah Shafie & Hana Tajima)
Hana Tajima:

WoM: What do you think of the event?

Hana Tajima: It was wonderful. I think it's something wonderful and nice to see how they use fashion to help the unfortunate kids.

WoM: How is this fashion event different than the ones in London?

Hana Tajima: They are pretty much the same. Only that here in Malaysia, I find it more colourful. They have a playful vibe here in Malaysia which I love about.
